The Wentworth Wingback Chair
The Wentworth Wingback Chair is a traditional English wingback armchair after the fireside chairs of 18th-century Georgian houses. The wings were never ornament: they held the warmth of the fire around the sitter and kept out the draughts of large rooms. The Wentworth keeps the tall back, deep wings and scrolled arms of those originals, outlines them in hand-applied brass nailheads, and stands them on straight mahogany legs joined by stretchers.
The frame is kiln-dried solid mahogany, shaped by hand and sealed with a hand-polished lacquer, and made by artisan workshops to Reeva Sethi Home’s design. A high-density foam seat keeps its shape and the upright back gives real support, which makes this a chair for reading rather than lounging. It is shown in a blue herringbone woven in India; for custom orders, the upholstery is developed to whatever the client and the room require.
At 48 inches high, 35 wide and 40.5 deep, the Wentworth needs a room with some height: a library, a study, a reading corner, or beside the fireplace, alone or as a pair. It belongs among furniture collected over time, next to an old desk and a wall of books. It is in stock at the Reeva Sethi Home showroom in Saratoga, California.
