The Chatsworth Mahogany Butler’s Tray Table
The Chatsworth is a definitive mahogany butler’s tray table that reflects the composed elegance of Regency-era
service furniture, where form and function were held in equal regard. Designed for flexibility without compromise, it carries the visual discipline of a fine antique while offering the practical ease expected of a well-considered modern interior.
Crafted from solid mahogany, the Chatsworth features a removable tray with four hinged sides, allowing it to transition effortlessly between service and display. The proportions remain restrained and balanced, ensuring the piece feels purposeful rather than decorative. Its profile is unmistakably architectural, with a presence that reads as collected rather than styled.
Turned folding legs provide structural integrity while allowing the table to be collapsed and stored with discretion when not in use. The X-frame construction offers stability without visual heaviness, reinforcing the table’s role as a service piece that does not dominate the room.
Hand-polished brass hardware introduces a subtle counterpoint to the depth of the mahogany, adding warmth without excess. Every element is intentional, from the precise joinery to the hand-rubbed living finish that deepens gracefully with age. The surface develops character over time, rewarding use rather than resisting it.
Style Note: Ideally paired with the Montclair Mahogany Chest the Chatsworth serves as a lighter, portable counterpart to more permanent architectural furnishings, offering flexibility within a composed interior.
Care & Material Notes
As with all Reeva Sethi Heritage pieces, the Chatsworth Mahogany Butler’s Tray Table is designed to mature with the home. Solid mahogany is responsive to its environment; maintaining consistent indoor humidity will help preserve joinery, alignment, and surface integrity over time.
To maintain the hand-rubbed patina, dust regularly with a soft, dry cotton cloth. Avoid commercial sprays or silicone-based polishes, which may dull the finish. The solid brass hinges are intentionally left unlacquered and will develop a warm, natural oxidation. If desired, a gentle brass cloth may be used, though many collectors prefer the character of aged metal on a butler’s tray table of this caliber.
