The St. James Estate Bench
Evoking the refined atmosphere of a 19th-century British study, the St. James Estate Bench is crafted in the tradition of enduring English furniture. Designed as architectural seating rather than a decorative accent, it lends quiet authority to entry halls, bedrooms, and gallery-like interiors.
The frame is hand-crafted from solid, kiln-dried plantation-grown mahogany, selected for its density and expressive grain. A hand-rubbed French polish reveals the wood’s deep, natural warmth, complemented by a hand-woven natural cane backrest chosen for both strength and longevity.
Standing on tapered Hepplewhite legs joined by a reinforced H-stretcher, the bench has a grounded, substantial presence. The upholstered seat is tailored in a tight, high-density weave and finished with individually applied antiqued brass nailhead detailing.
Built without veneers or MDF, the St. James is designed to be refinished, restored, and passed down through generations. Production is intentionally limited, prioritizing traditional joinery and hand-finishing over assembly-line speed.
